The Company Ortomad is a dynamic operation based in an extremely fertile area called “Piana del Sele” in the South of Italy. It deals with the production of both raw fresh fruits and selected vegetable products: either loose, packaged, or washed and ready to be consumed. Ortomad is part of La Linea Verde Group, Italian leader in the marketing of fresh fruit, vegetables and chilled ready-to-eat meals. Ortomad was established in 1998 following the intuition of a couple of farsighted young men who had identified the extraordinary viability of the Piana del Sele (both in terms of climate and fertility) for the production of fresh-cut vegetables. Since then, the Ortomad operation has shown astonishing growth in the fruit and vegetable market, with marked and increasing success both in Italy and abroad. This expansion is principally due to research into quality and hygienic control and to the experience which Ortomad has developed in the cultivation of baby leaf and head salads (lettuce, chicory and endive). Apart from its own production (approx. 250 acres), Ortomad operates as the central processing plant and distributor for a network of rigidly controlled supply farms (regularly inspected by independent agronomists) which all comply to Integrated Agriculture standards. Directly controlled and supervised by Ortomad, this agricultural supply network of raw material production involves some sixty producers, all of whom ensure a continuous daily supply of freshly cropped products responding directly to customer demand. Ortomad Foreign Division Aside from Italy, Ortomad products are currently marketed in France, Holland, England, Spain, Russia, Scandinavia (Sweden, Denmark & Norway) and Switzerland. Principal clients are seasonal producers and distributors of fresh vegetables and fruit. Under a programme of continuous investment - both in terms of human resources and infrastructure - the objective of the foreign division is the continual growth of the distribution of fresh raw (both loose and pre-packaged) vegetables throughout the whole of Europe. An ambition which has been positively achieved through systematic and continuous agronomic development of the overall commercial and production structure. Corporate Data 2010, once again, closed positively for Ortomad. Turnover was approximately € 22,000,000, registering a growth trend of +10% relative to 2009. As things stand, the Ortomad Società Agricola s.r.l. produces an average of 550 tons per day: 350 tons of baby leaf and 200 tons per day of head salads. This adds up to total of approximately 17000 tons annually. The covered production area of the Ortomad supply farms is something in the region of 400 hectares (over 1000 acres). An area considerably augmented by the open fields used for the cultivation of head salads. The principal covered area of 100 hectares is directly managed by Ortomad itself and is the largest concentrated area for production of baby leaf in the whole of Italy. Ortomad is served by a vast network of haulage contractors. Operating with fleets of modern refridgerated trucks, the original quality of the product is guaranteed by controlled packaging and confection, fast transfer and punctual delivery.
