Our Mission of Sustainability is achieved through the selection and application of clear and responsible activities aimed at both the sustainable supplying of raw materials and the conscious use of natural resources and the protection of people’s needs, starting from respect for human rights until the creation of a positive workplace.

At Ortomad, aware of the important role we play in preserving the ecosystem as an integral part of it, we are committed to acting with sustainable practices to protect:

Consumer: We are committed to providing safe, fresh products and a transparent relationship.
Environment: through an approach on the whole supply chain and the application of innovative technologies, we consciously use natural resources pursuing environmental respect.

Our Sustainability Policies are inspired by the International Conventions and in particular by the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the Global Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 SDGs, by the International Labor Organization legislation, and by the guidelines of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.

Ortomad and the Environment

Implementing responsible choices both in the sustainable supply of raw materials and in the aware performance of its production activities, Ortomad concretely expresses its respect for and protection of the environment and natural resources. It pursues a sustainable approach throughout the whole supply chain and, over the years, this commitment has led to the drafting of production specifications that our suppliers/farmers work to, as well as relations based on continuous exchange for research and the implementation of innovative technologies and methods focusing on the improvement of environmental and energy performance in farming.

Ortomad demands that its suppliers undersign explicit acceptance of the Ethical Code which expresses the company values in terms of respect for human rights and the environment.

AGRICULTURAL PROJECTS

Sustainable Farming today must provide healthy food through the production of quality raw materials and an appropriate and aware use of natural resources. This in itself is however not sufficient, as it must also work to preserve the land for future crops and improve biodiversity.

Ortomad farms have implemented long-term projects focusing on the aware use of water and energy, using modern monitoring technologies.

At the same time, the application of crop management practices (crop rotations, seeds, land clearing, etc.) has led to a minimal use of plant protection products, which associated to integrated pest control ensure low environmental impact at sustainable costs.

NATURAL RESOURCES

The company is already implementing projects for generating alternative energy from renewable sources:

photovoltaic plants
biogas plants are being installed to transform Ortomad by products into energy.

These energies are used for cooling the production facilities and agricultural activities.

The application of modern construction technologies and the use of innovative building materials were used to construct new sites or extend existing facilities limiting heat dispersion and, with the improvements operated on cooling systems, was possible to get a better reduce on the air impact.

MATERIAL MANAGEMENT

Implementing the European Commission indications on Packaging directives, Ortomad considers the development of innovative solutions guaranteeing the respect for keystone food safety principles and low environmental impact as a priority.

In a Group project, Ortomad has established the “Packaging Solutions Team”, which plans and conducts research, checks the best industrial applications and pursues the objective of continual improvement. In this field, it works on both the physical and chemical characteristics of the materials and on the logistics aspects, aiming to reduce emissions.

Responsibility and involvement are assured by listening carefully to the needs of consumers, towards whom Ortomad is committed to providing responsible responses that protect human health with fresh, safe products and transparent relations. We invest in the future, committed to food education projects to transmit the culture of health through the aware use of food.

The Ethical Code expresses the commitment to enhancing all the people, the respect for human rights and the implementation of strict policies to guarantee fairness and transparency.
For Ortomad, health and safety are an absolute priority, concretely implemented through the use of resources and instrument that minimise the risk of accidents and by creating a climate of positive relations to ensure global well-being.

The commitment continues by promoting projects that help young people to enter the job market or support those in situations of hardship or exclusion.

CONSUMERS

Our attention to consumers is expressed in the choice of the best raw materials, the guarantee of freshness through the respect of shelf life, no preservatives except cold, innovative recipes developed in compliance with correct nutritional profiles.

The communication is transparent and engaging for both children and adults. The company has set up a specific email address for consumers wishing to obtain information or give their opinions.

Within the sphere of sustainable economic development, people express an indispensable value for which Ortomad undertakes to design spaces and places that are able to transmit the values contained in Ethical Code, ensuring sustainable employment over time through continuous growth.

FOOD EDUCATION

One of the most important challenges for the future is to develop responsible life styles, which will significantly affect both the correct use of natural resources and balanced physical well-being.

For years Ortomad has been committed to implementing food education programmes for families, targeting above all young people, providing information on products and the best way to use them.

The aims are to contribute to the reduction of food waste, with significant effects on the use of natural resources, and to foster life styles that prevent disorders caused by overnutrition or malnutrition.

TERRITORY

The roots of Ortomad lie deep in our territory. While it is an international company, it maintains close relations with local area. Believing that businesses must express social responsibility, it contributes to developing a sustainable economy for People through Work, Fairness and Regularity. Ortomad fights all forms of discrimination and guarantees regular employment relations.

Ortomad promotes activities for the benefit of disadvantaged people, supporting the â€œMachakaâ€ women’s project of the African Charity Onlus Association (Kenya).
